Ph.D in Applied Biology – USTM
The Department of Applied Biology at USTM offers research opportunities in various areas:
-
Industrial and Food Microbiology: Focuses on the production of value-added products, microbial fuel cell technology, and optimization of enzymes, antibiotics, and fermented foods.
-
Nanotechnology: Research includes plant nanotechnology and applications of nanotechnology in agriculture.
-
Plant and Animal Biotechnology: Studies include plant tissue culture, micropropagation, and extraction of essential oils and phytochemicals.
-
Environmental Biotechnology/Microbiology: Research in this area covers bioremediation, biosurfactant production, and waste utilization for value-added products.
-
Food Science and Nutraceuticals: Includes research on women's health, dietetics, and production of nutraceuticals.
-
Medical Microbiology: Focuses on the study of microorganisms related to human health, including urinary tract infections and skin diseases.
Some ongoing research projects include the development of herbal tooth gel, a dryer based on refractance window technology for small tea growers, nutritional aqua feed from hostel waste, a fertility health meter, and a herbal diffuser named "Sanjeevani." Additionally, there are projects on isolating plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria and developing biofertilizers for sustainable agriculture, as well as utilizing bioresources and bioprocessing cow dung for product development and women's empowerment through entrepreneurship.
