MSc Chemistry – USTM

The Department of Chemistry at USTM offers a postgraduate program, MSc in Chemistry, following UGC guidelines. The curriculum includes theoretical knowledge and hands-on laboratory experiments, along with research activities.

The MSc program aims to enhance students' ability to define problems, design and conduct experiments, analyze data using statistical methods, and draw conclusions. It is divided into three stages: foundation courses covering organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry; in-depth courses that develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills; and a fundamental course on modern analytical instrumentations and their applications.

The laboratory component of the program includes advanced elemental analysis, identification of different groups, synthesis and characterization of molecules, and hands-on experience with modern analytical instrumentation.

In the final semester, students undertake a 200-mark research course, conducting research activities and submitting a project dissertation with an open house thesis defense. This research course provides students with a substantial understanding of active research fields and motivates them to pursue higher education and careers in research and industry.
