Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSc PH) – MLCU
The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSc PH) program responds to the global shift towards recognizing public health as a central strategy for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), endorsed by the World Health Organization in 2017. Aligned with India's goal of attaining UHC by 2022, the program aims to address persistent public health challenges both domestically and globally.
Program Focus: The curriculum is designed to provide individuals with a foundational understanding of key public health aspects, with an emphasis on disease epidemiology, health determinants, emerging health challenges, public policy formulation, and program management. The program recognizes the need for a dedicated Public Health Cadre to bridge the gap between clinical and managerial aspects of program implementation, offering techno-managerial insights.
Integrated MPH Option: Students have the opportunity to pursue an integrated Master of Public Health (MPH) program, allowing them to earn an MPH degree in five years (3 years of BSc PH + 2 years of MPH). This integrated approach enhances the depth of knowledge and prepares graduates for leadership roles in public health.
Course Delivery and Assessment: The learning experience incorporates lectures, practicum, fieldwork, assignments, and internship/block placement/rural posting. Continuous formative assessment, presentations, and reports are employed as evaluation methods, ensuring a comprehensive and practical learning approach.
Career Prospects: Upon completion, graduates are well-equipped for diverse career paths, including roles such as Research Officer in Government Departments/NGOs, Public Health Communicator, NGO Sector Public Health Officer, Research Assistants, Field Data Collectors, and positions related to food safety, sanitary inspection, and health assistance. The program's emphasis on practical skills and theoretical knowledge prepares students to effectively address ongoing and emerging public health challenges.
