The School of Energy Science and Engineering (formerly the Centre for Energy) at IIT Guwahati, established in May 2004, plays a pivotal role in advancing multidisciplinary activities related to various aspects of energy technology and systems. The School is dedicated to fostering research, teaching, and consultancy in the field of energy, with a specific emphasis on the potential and application of different energy resources in the northeastern region of India. Notably, the School prioritizes activities in areas such as bio-energy, small hydro-power, alternative fuels, clean coal technology, combustion, and energy efficiency of systems.

In line with the growing demand for professionals in the field of Energy, the School has introduced a new Bachelor's program – B.Tech. in Energy Engineering – starting from 2022. This program aligns with the current industry demand and reflects the School's commitment to producing skilled professionals equipped to address the evolving challenges in the energy sector.
