Arunachal Pradesh University, located in Pasighat, stands as the sole State University in Arunachal Pradesh, established on 1 July 2022 under the Arunachal Pradesh University Act, 2012. Empowered by the UGC to confer degrees, the university conducts courses through its departments, constituent colleges, and affiliated colleges in regular mode. The university's foundation stone was laid by Shri Nabam Tuki, then Chief Minister, on 11 January 2013, in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, marking a significant milestone in the region's educational landscape.

Situated amidst dense evergreen tropical forests overlooking the mighty Siang River, the university lies in the migration corridor of various indigenous communities. Pasighat, the town where the university is located, is among the oldest in the state, founded in 1912. Connected by NH 515 to Guwahati and Itanagar and by Bogibeel Bridge to Dibrugarh, Pasighat boasts an airport and is well-connected by rail via Murkong Selek in Assam. This strategic location enhances accessibility and facilitates a conducive academic environment.

Inaugurating its first academic session on 23 August 2023, Arunachal Pradesh University initially offers post-graduate courses in Commerce, Education, Economics, Social Work, and Tribal Studies.
